Uncanny X-Men. Really solid one-shot.

I feel bad because I loved Grist's Jack Staff and Kane, but his take on British Spider-Man just isn't working for me. The best part of issue two was the two pages in the back going over logo designs. Part of it is that Spider-Man has been redone so many times (as Nova, Speedball, Invincible, Ultimate Spider-Man) that it's almost impossible for it to feel fresh to me.

I'll give it a few more issues since I like Grist's work so much, but man.[/align]

Most certainly felt a little sparse on story but, and I agree with you totally here, I love Grist's art and page breakdowns (is that the proper nomenclature?) and will give it at least one more issue if not story arc.

Also totally agree with this.

Also found myself pretty pleased with Action finally. As much as I like the idea of the superman of the proletariat, I enjoy the Morrison of the universe much more.
I'm liking-not-loving Mud Man, but I'm enough of a fan of Grist's to stick around as long as this thing keeps coming out.

I ended up accidentally purchasing Uncanny (I was in a hurry!) but have to agree, that was a very good issue. I just really wish Land wasn't drawing the next arc. Because I can't give that man my money.

And speaking of art that drives me bonkers, Andy Kubert on Action was … not good. I keep wondering how much more enjoyable this title would be if the art was better. Because writing-wise, it seems like somebody's doing an impression of Grant Morrison on quaaludes and the lack of a decent artist doesn't help to sell what has been good-but-not-great stuff.

But yeah, the big, sweeping space opera tone of the last issue was a nice break from the first few issues.

But anyway, here's this week's Pull-List:

The All-New Batman: The Brave & The Bold #15 (Mister Miracle!)
Demon Knights #5
Sacrifice #2
Scalped #55
The Unwritten #33
Wolverine & The X-Men #4
I like Mud Man, but I haven't read much of Grist's other work. His art is really appealing and it's nice to read something so easy going.

This week I'm grabbing:
Amazing Spider-Man 677 - Isn't this basically an issue of Daredevil in disguise? Waid is writing and Emma Rios is doing the art.
Batwoman 5
Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. 5
Heart 3
Lobster Johnson The Burning Hand 1 - Tonci Zonjic is so great, guys.
The Shade 4 - Darwyn Cooke!
Strange Talent of Luther Strode 4
Wolverine and the X-men 4
This week is probably my biggest week in a while, being expanded ever so slightly by one of the items being a re-order because, hey, I guess Sweet Tooth has a growing audience here now that Lemire is making two of the best DC 52 titles.

Sweet Tooth - I never know what issue number it is at any given point. You follow a series this long and you just can't keep up. 29 I think.
Batwoman 5 - Holy crap the the first arc is over with this, and we'll soon have some sweet Amy Reeder art to gorge outselves on. But first we get to see if Blackman and Williams III know how to finish a story, the make or break skill for them as creators
Demon Knights 5 - GO FASTER. For real, this is one of the more conventionally pretty DC titles (despite Dio having something completely unlike the DC house style), and it's incredibly well written, but I wish something would actually happen in it. Especially with Al Jabr and Exoristos, who might just be the new character finds of the dark ages
Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE 5 - I love this, and it's crossing over with OMAC, the actioniest title in the world. What more could I want?
The Shade 4 - Darwyn Cooke and J. Bone? Yeah, that'll do nicely
Superboy 5 - An issue set before issue 4 of Teen Titans, with him rescuing Caitlin Fairchild on the cover. That's... interesting, because the idea with the TT crossover is that he's trying to get teen heroes to be under control of NOWHERE, who took Caitlin as a prisoner for being an eco-terrorist spy. So let's say the cover rings true and he rescues her from them and sets her free. Wouldn't that break the rules of the agency he is a part of and... I'm confused. Either way it's connected to Teen Titans, a comic where Danny The Street is a member, so I'm happy anyway
This week's haul:

BATMAN & ROBIN #5
BATWOMAN #5
DEMON KNIGHTS #5
FRANKENSTEIN, AGENT OF SHADE #5
SECRET AVENGERS #5
THE ALL-NEW BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #15
THE SHADE #4
THE UNWRITTEN VOL. 5

Oh yeah, I should add in SACRIFICE #2, however my shop shelved it a few weeks ago and I snapped it up and it is damn good comics. Even better than the first issue.
Wolverine and the X-Men #4
The Shade #4
X-Factor #... something? I don't know. I'm not reading the issues 'til the next TPB is out.
Managed to get to the store today and get everything I was after. This was a pretty great week. Rios, Zonjic, Cooke, Bradshaw, and Williams all knocked it out of the park.

TFAW says Sacrifice has been shipped, so I should be reading that soon.
Wolverine & the X-Men #4 was a lot of fun. I'm really loving this book.

It's so good. And I loved the live tweet of the class, too. A lot of fun.
