K, so I have read them. I did a longer spoilery post on my blog, which you can find in my signature.
I am pretty "meh" on both of them. Justice League just felt like more Hal Jordan blowjobs from Geoff Johns.
Coming from someone who actually liked Flashpoint, Flashpoint 5 was flat out awful.
Justice League 1 had better than I expected art, but that story was boring and unfinished. It felt like 1/25 of a 5 part story.
Where once I was hopeful about NuDC I am filled with absolute dread at 52 comics that are all setup.
I enjoyed Justice League #1 a fair bit. I can totally understand where they're coming from with the intent to get new readers. Plug in your two biggest other-media characters (since this was written months ago, they had to work from the assumption Green Lantern would be a hit) and introduce everyone else as it goes along. It told a pretty propulsive story. There was a little too much set-up, but in the grand scheme of superhero event comics (and this is definitely an event comic), there was more meat to this than what Fear Itself offered in its first issue.
I've never been a fan of Lee's art, but this was pretty crisp, still not my favorite style but it was appealing.
Flashpoint #5 was so awful I don't even know how to talk about it.
Justice League #1 on the other hand was not that bad.
Hal Jordan referring to himself as "Green Lantern" in third person was kind of embarrassing the second time he did it... and then he did it another 20 times.
I cannot lie, I thought that last page was pretty cool (if I ignore the word balloons).
I went to my LCS looking for the JL#1 Combo pack that came with the digital copy for a dollar more and the store's owner told me he didn't order ANY copies of it because he didn't want to do anything to support digital.
It's not as though I don't understand where he was coming from, but I was absolutely dumbstruck.
I guess that means they won't be a part of the DC Digital initiative that will let fans buy their digital issues from their LCS, so the LCS still makes money off them.
The not supporting digital thing sucks. DC is bending over backwards to keep retailers happy.
With the exception of the Batman stuff at the very end of Flashpoint #5 I didn't find it all that terrible. I also really didn't expect much, so that probably helped.
I had to reread the part where you said you liked that last page, because I missed the part about the speech bubbles. I was like why would Chris Haley of all people like this Superman? The NuDC Justice League's Superman is a character that punches first, instigates fights with Batman, and may possibly never ask questions later. Unless it is "What Powers Do You Have So I Know What Kind of Fight We Are Gonna Get Into Because I Am All About Punching, Bro!"

I have to imagine that he heard Hal talking about them coming after him (especially the way Hal phrased it) with his super-hearing was why he knocked him out in that "punch first" fashion.
Superman just needed one of these moments of his own.

Since it was DCnU Superman's
first appearance, I went ahead and fixed the dialogue..

I enjoyed Flashpoint #5 for the most part. It just felt rushed. Like it was two separate comics cut in half then stapled together. The first half a very quick wrap up of the Flashpoint story and the other trying to explain the birth of this new timeline.
As for the bit at the end. I liked it. I have my own reasons for why. But I may have nearly cried in the middle of Starbucks. Which would have been........interesting and weird for everyone involved.
As for Justice League #1 I loved it. As an introductory issue it was good. Using Batman and Green Lantern to introduce us to this new world and story works. Especially if think of them as serving the same story function as the droids from Star Wars

The banter was enjoyable and Hal came of as suitably arrogant for the point in his career being depicted. I also really liked the last page.
I am really looking forward to the next issue.
