It's the good Lobdell writing it, Superboy himself is interesting as a blank slate taking a new world in, and it is gorgeous.

Has the second issue come out? I can't even recall what the cover for it looks like.

Yep, came out the 12th of October.

I'm not sure how well I like it, yet, but I'm excited for the next issue so I guess that's saying something.

Found and read it today.
I think you summed it up pretty well, GL. I'm not sure I how much I liked it, but I do want to keep reading it.
Wherein I will talk about some DCnU I read last night:

Superboy #3: Boy, was that a mess. I'm still interested to see where it's going and there was a nice reveal and, of course, RB Silva's art is great, but man. Totally all over the place.

Blue Beetle #2: Is anyone reading this? I enjoyed it, but I never hear anyone talking about it. Which worries me.

Birds of Prey #2: See above.

Green Lantern #3: Once again, Geoff Johns (with a MAJOR assist from Doug Mahnke) manages to make me enjoy a comic he has written in spite of himself. I don't want to like this comic for reasons that have nothing to do with the comic itself, and yet, I cannot help myself.

Aquaman #2: This was the exact opposite of Green Lantern #3. Nothing happens and it takes forever for that nothing to happen. Ivan Reis is great, but even his art couldn't save this issue, which was a real surprise, because I was gung ho, ready to go, way excited about the promise/potential of this book after the first issue. Not ready to give up on it or anything, but this certainly a bummer.

Nightwing #2: See Blue Beetle & Birds of Prey. The story's interesting and the writing's not half bad, but man, the art on this book is fantastic.

OMAC #1-3: Though I really wanted to like it, the first issue of OMAC did absolutely nothing for me. Issues 2 and 3 got me on board though, which is of course when I hear that OMAC is apparently the lowest selling book of the New 52. #EverythingWeLikeGetsCancelled

Really? Even lower than Hawk and Dove? I kind of find that surprising.

And I'm loving Blue Beetle, but nothing's really happened yet so I dunno if it's going to be as good as the previous series or not.

And I dunno if I'm the only one who thinks so, but Batwing is easily the sleeper hit so far. I love the story, the writing is good, and that art is freakin' fantastic.

I really want to like Blue Beetle, but it keeps coming off as a tone-deaf cover version of the last series, which was fantastic. I don't know why they couldn't have just picked up from there. Bedard's in a tough spot, but he's rolling over a lot of what I liked about that book in the first place.

However, I do like Birds of Prey, it's a very solid action book, though I think because it's not doing anything incredibly flashy or has any huge fan favorite characters in it, it gets overlooked. I'm always in for a solid, espionagy, action book..

And yeah, OMAC is the shit, but Rob Leifeld is still a name that can sell a whole lot of book and Didio & Giffen are not.
Here's what I read from my stack last night:

Batman & Robin #3: Really liking this book, even more than Batman. It's obvious that this was written pre-reboot and was meant to run parallel to Batman, Inc. but it doesn't take me out of the story. I like that they're pulling in some strands of movie Batman's continuity too. Just a solid Batman book.

Batwoman #3: Probably my favorite, non-OMAC, book of the reboot, mostly because I've been waiting so long. It does read quickly, but so did Rucka's 'Tec issues with Batwoman, it's just they had Question back-ups to beef up the reading experience. Williams III's compositions are just beautiful.

Demon Knights #3: I'm still liking this series, but this issue feels like they're stretching out the narrative to hit that 6-issue-TPB sweetspot. Still loving the cast they've assembled.

Frankenstein #3: Art was a little rough, but the story about the Creature Commandos invading a Monster Planet is just too good, if anything this has the opposite problem of Demon Knights in that Lemire is jamming so much into every issue it might need a little more time to breathe.

That's all I got though last night, maybe a few more tonight.
I've really been trying to give all of the books a fair shake and a few issues to find their footing and see how they do before I pass any final judgments, but after three issues, I am done with Batgirl.

I don't know if anyone else is reading it (or cares), but the scene in issue 3 where she proceeds to literally beat the shit out of Nightwing for winning a game of tag and having the unmitigated nerve to ask if she was doing okay was WAY worse than any awful Harley Quinn costume change or Batman/Catwoman sex scene.

And no, I'm not mad in some fanboy way because I think there's no way Batgirl could beat Nightwing in a fight. I was disgusted because the way the scene was written was horrible and the behavior was reprehensible.
Wait, wait, wait. Literally? Like, he actually shit? Or literarily, wherein she would beat him with a bigass book?

Batman & Robin may be my favorite book of the relaunch.

Sigh.

I meant "literally" in the sense that she actually punches, kicks, and batarangs him bloody, as opposed to a sparring or playful kind of fight someone that hasn't read the issue might have mistaken my saying she beat him up to mean.

The "literally" was in reference to the beating, not the shit.
It pains me to say it, but I think I'm gonna be dropping Animal Man and Frankenstein. They're just not doing it for me. Which means I'm down to Wonder Woman, Action, Demon Knights and OMAC for my DC pulls. Oh, and I think I'm gonna be adding the Brave & the Bold comic to my list as well. Issue #13 was just so much fun.
