No Batman? No Batman & Robin? No Flash (The)?

No Batwoman? D:

Based on what's been said here, I'll have to pick up OMAC and Batman and Robin again. Demon Knights is amazing and I will love it forever. I, too, might be dropping Animal Man. It's extremely wonderful in its way, but it's going too slow for me. Or I guess "slow" would be it, I don't know.

(11-12-2011 04:37 PM)thechrishaley Wrote: [ -> ]I don't know if anyone else is reading it (or cares), but the scene in issue 3 where she proceeds to literally beat the shit out of Nightwing for winning a game of tag and having the unmitigated nerve to ask if she was doing okay was WAY worse than any awful Harley Quinn costume change or Batman/Catwoman sex scene.

And no, I'm not mad in some fanboy way because I think there's no way Batgirl could beat Nightwing in a fight. I was disgusted because the way the scene was written was horrible and the behavior was reprehensible.

Yeah, that scene made no sense to me. :/ I really want to like the series, because there must be a reason they magicked away Barbra's paralysis, but so far they haven't justified the change yet. I'll stick with it and see what happens.

(11-11-2011 10:40 AM)thechrishaley Wrote: [ -> ]Superboy #3: Boy, was that a mess. I'm still interested to see where it's going and there was a nice reveal and, of course, RB Silva's art is great, but man. Totally all over the place.

Blue Beetle #2: Is anyone reading this? I enjoyed it, but I never hear anyone talking about it. Which worries me.

Nightwing #2: See Blue Beetle & Birds of Prey. The story's interesting and the writing's not half bad, but man, the art on this book is fantastic.

I'm really liking Nightwing and Blue Beetle, too, but there hasn't been a whole lot to talk about yet (for me, anyway).

And Superboy... I honestly don't remember why I was excited for this issue, and there wasn't a nice cliff hanger to get me pumped for the next one. So we shall see.

---
Should I be reading Green Lantern? The thrill of having a Kyle Rayner book is going to wear off sometime (very excited for where it's going presently, not sure I'll be excited when the group is off adventuring or whatever in their own corps) and I do miss reading a main GL title... but I haven't decided if it's worth it. (I actually really like The Flash, for what its worth, but I've always liked Barry more than Hal anyway. So will my immense dislike of Hal ruin the book for me entirely?)
Batgirl is probably the next on my list to get dropped. It's just been consistently horrible. Same with Firestorm. *Maybe* Men of War as well. I'm gonna give them all up to issue 5 (or end of their first arc, whichever comes first) and then decide.

Static Shock is another one on the edge, mainly because the art isn't that great, but the story is at least semi-interesting, so we'll see.

Animal Man, Frankenstein, Demon Knights, Batwoman and Aquaman are still my top 5, though. Especially Frankenstein and Demon Knights. So fucking good.
Batgirl misses the mark terribly in it being so dark. It should be FUN. Batgirl comics aren't afraid to smile. We needed Agent X Simone and we got Secret Six Simone.
This isn't letting me post the quotes, but this is in reply to Chris and GL:

Man, I don't like Scott Snyder (him and Nick Spencer are my "Can somebody explain to me why these guys are considered good?" list), so Batman did not do it for me. It didn't help that like the day before I read Batman #1, David Brothers totally called Snyder on his overuse of characters using anecdotes as a storytelling tool and sure enough, there's Bruce Wayne at a benefit or whatever telling this story about how one time his dad told him blahblahblah…

What I read of Batman & Robin was good, but not impressive enough for me to commit to purchasing monthly. I'd read it digitally once it dropped in price if I had an iPad or something. The Flash, same thing; I liked it, but it wasn't anything I felt like I had to be purchasing/reading. Times is tough all over, man. Great Recession and all that.

As far as Batwoman goes, I'm waiting for the trades on that one. It's beautiful, but in single issues it feels so dang light, like it's over before it begins. So I'll just read it in a big chunk and not feel gipped.
Has anyone else read Justice League #3?

..And was I the only one who thought Diana looked... I don't know, emotionless? I think she grinned in one scene. And "grinned" is a generous exaggeration of what her facial muscles were doing.

Besides that, I'm honestly now sure what I think of this issue. Was it a good introduction of Wonder Woman to the team? I dunno. Maybe? The "You're strong." "I know." thing bothers me, because did they do that for anyone else? Nope, they have to make that observation for the chick. Just in case you didn't know, guys, this here is a person with muscle who is also a lady. Mind fucking blown. The "Dibs" thing worked for me, though, because 1) that is a thing that guys say, and 2) it's Hal and that is what he does. (And did I miss something in Aquaman's personality in his nU issues so far, or did he just suddenly become a comedian in the last page? I mean, I know he's being serious, but he's doing so in a humorous manner. Just seemed a little out of place for him.)

I was going to go off on an archaeology student discussion of the History of Atlantis thing but I will refrain.

And everyone's seen this, yes? (Sorry it's so huge, photobucket is being mean! D: )

The more I stare at it, the less I like it. There's too much going on for me, but for all we know these are his very special invasion clothes and maybe he'll lose the crotch arrow and chest piece.

Edit: Just read Nightwing and Wonder Woman. Both were awesome. Is it wrong to think a badguy is awesome? Because I kinda think Saiko is awesome. And the art in Wonder Woman is amazing. When I find it, I'm adding that panel where Diana is blowing the fire onto the pyres to the best art thread. Also, I'm hoping Hermes sticks around, 'cause I'm a fan of that fella.
My run down on the past week's DCnU purchases:

Justice League #3: I cannot explain for the life of me why I like this book but I just do. It's so stupid it's kind of beautiful. Still feels kind of thin for $3.99, but the Shazam! back-ups show up in #5, so I can deal.

Wonder Woman #3: I'm really liking this book, but not yet loving it. I'd love to see Strife get a bigger stage. She's a great character, feels like someone out of Azzarello & Chiang's Doctor Thirteen story.

Batman #3: Still just not feeling this. I loved Snyder's run on Detective and I'm pretty sure that I just liked his Dick Grayson a lot more than his Bruce Wayne. Just not as much personality here. Dropping this one going forward.

Blue Beetle #3: Didn't intend to pick this up, but I forgot to take it off my pull-list. Better than the first two issues, but still a pale cover version of the original series. I can see why they're re-telling/re-booting his origin, but it's just not as good.

And that's it for this week, since it's a thin week next week, I'll probably grab Birds of Prey #3 since a lot of people are talking it up and I really liked the first two issues.

Disappointed, but unsurprised that OMAC got cut. Still, I'll be picking up four of the new series and getting Batman, Inc. back on the schedule is good news indeed.
