This is the best/most concise explanation of why Justice League #1 was disappointing I’ve read.

That's the first page of Swamp Thing. I'm pretty excited about this book.
You can see the next three pages at iFanboy.

The guys House to Astonish essentially said the same thing. It's not that it's a bad comic (again, still haven't read it, so not my thoughts) but it doesn't necessarily raise the bar that one would expect from a massive relaunch like this. Their line of reasoning was that this felt more like the first part of a story when a comic with this amount of hype needed to be a complete story (whether that story fit within the confines of the pages they had there or the comic should have been double sized).
From a construction stand point, it's not the best way to grip new readers. I've seen a lot of comments elsewhere that have stated it was successful in getting them to buy their first Justice League comic in years, but not necessarily successful in convincing them to buy second issue.

I just got around to reading Flashpoint #5 and Justice League #1. I don't think I've ever felt this unsatisfied with a comic (or rather, comics). And geez, it ended with a crying Batman!

I honestly don't think putting in the whole team in the comic for a complete done in one issue would work in getting a new reader. Think about it, these are people who aren't familiar with these characters and just cramming them all together with no real explanation would increase the confusion level.
You have to approach this with the mindset of a new reader. We are biased, We've already been indoctrinated into the cult of comics. We are expecting this comic to blow us away. We need to talk to the new readers and ask how they feel about the comic.
Now I feel like pointing out the comic that returned me to the medium after being away for nearly 10 years away was an issue of Astonishing X-men. That's one series known for it's decompression. Also Bendis's Early New Avengers helped. The Decompression left me wanting more. Left me eager to buy the next issue to get the rest of the story.
I am not the biggest fan of Decompression overall, though. Especially when it leads to talking heads in comics. It can be a great tool to get people into reading comics. I have a feeling the entire line isn't going to be decompressed, either. I think people are over-reacting to this comic. It is a case of people expecting one thing and getting something different. People (namely us calloused fans) were expecting a return to this idea of one in done stories, instead we got an excellent first issue set up to what looks to be a great story arc. Now we could see some one in done issues or smaller arc after this first one, but right now we got something that is a slow burn. I should point out Morrison's JLA started with a 4 issue arc that didn't have the full on Justice League until issue 2 at the least and they didn't call themselves the full league until the end.

Here's the huge difference though, at the end (and beginning really) of the first issue of Whedon's Atsonishing X-Men and Morrison's JLA, both the X-Men and JLA were defined as a team. From what it looks like in Justice League, it's going to take several issues for that to happen. People picking up Justice League didn't really get the Justice League, they got Batman, Green Lantern and Superman (sort of) with a Cyborg subplot.

Has anyone seen the preview pages for Justice League International?
There's some wonderfully dreadful dialogue and a side swipe at internet fans who are reacting negatively to the changes...
Can't really see that winning over any new fans.

Yeah the first thing that happens after the swipe at internet fans complaining is Booster saying, "Ignore them? Never! It's our job to prove them wrong!" which doesn't sound like an attack to me. I didn't think the preview was that great, but I like the JLI, so I'll give it a chance.
