Preferably a single trade paperback rather than just saying, "Green Lantern." Because I really don't see what people see in the guy and I'd love to be educated as to why he's one of the most popular creators out there.
This is a serious request.
I'm rather partial to his short run on Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. It's always something to watch out for in the quarter bins. And I remember quite liking "World Trust," the first arc of his Avengers run back when it came out.

Dur. I am an idiot. Booster was amazing. Perhaps the last time Johns bothered to do any character building.

But with Booster, don't you need to know a fair bit about the DCU in order to really appreciate it?

I don't know about that. Although Booster is fixing time errors, most of what he is there to achieve is either fairly well explained or inherently understandable. Did you read 52? or do you know about Booster's persona at all? If not it may be a little more difficult to really appreciate the evolution of Booster, but I don't think it is by any means inaccessible due to a lack of knowledge regarding continuity.
Or better yet just listen to this a few times and you'll be right as rain.
