I was perusing the excellent Project: Rooftop recently and I came across a post about the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon series (a completely unnecessary series in my opinion since Spectacular Spider-Man was perfectly fine, but that's a different matter) in which it detailed the various character designs. One caught my eye however, the design for the Green Goblin, which took inspiration from the Ultimate Comics, and I've gotta say.... I hate it.
I've never like the big super-freak look for the Green Goblin, it just takes away the appeal of the character as this maniac with an unending amount of insane plans and trick, instead it just turns him into another boring character to be bested in a punching contest. It's unnecessary too since Spider-Man has tons of one-dimensional villains who are just there to wreak inarticulate havoc, the Goblin is always great because he's unpredictable and insane. Same goes for the Ultimate Hobgoblin by the way.
What I'm saying is that I prefer the classic "guy in a suit one a hilarious rocket sled" Green Goblin to the Ultimate "generic mutated freak" Green Goblin.
Do you agree? Yes/No/Maybe? Why?
EDIT:
One more thing that I realized on further reflection is that I feel that the OG GG is more visually interesting, not just from a costuming and physical standpoint, but from an action one as well. The Ultimate GG is just some big guy who sometimes throws fireballs, Spidey jumps around him making puns and then maybe lands on his back to pummel the Goblin, end of scene. OG GG on the other hand, has one thing that Spidey doesn't: flight. So when they're fighting, not only is the Green Goblin using actual weapons (bombs, throwing knives, come the demon Etrigan) which is a refreshing change from a bunch of punching, but to actually get at the Goblin Spider-Man has to get creative, launching himself at the glider or even attaching a webline to it. It's just a visually more interesting fight to me and it helps to further set the Goblin apart from more punch-y enemies. It's also an uphill battle against a better armed opponent instead of just a bigger opponent, which is also a nice change.
