I recently made my second annual visit to the Baltimore Comic Con, and I had arguably even a better time this year than last.

One of the things that's been fun is getting to actually talk for a moment to creators I've admired for years, like Sergio Aragones and Jeff Parker (last year) and Stan Sakai and JM DeMatteis this year.

For me, these are some of my favorite con moments. Nothing amazing happened, we just talked comics for a bit, like people who love the medium, even though they are thousands of times more well known than I will ever be.

It got me thinking--what are your favorite con moments that are of a similar nature, where you got to talk to a hero or two?

I remember going to my first con (Pittsburgh, I want to say 2005-6) and talking to Howard Chaykin for a pretty decent time about American Flag!, his quitting smoking and comics in general.

I also met Alex Robinson, Mike Turner and Bendis at the same show, as well as Danielle Corsetto, ect.

It's one of the reasons I go back almost every year. As well as, uh, having a table and a lot of fun every time.
I went to Chicago comic con one time, when I lived there. first day I was feeling a bit under the weather and had a 1 day pass. second day I was doing the "work half the day, get half the day to con around" deal, and I was hella balls sick. they had me passing out free manga samplers and by the end of it I was just sitting on the ground, holding the things up to anyone who walked by. hella balls sick.
Last year at SPX I got to meet KC Green in person and that was awesome and then I met Jeff Rowland and he was the nicest guy ever.

(I didn't meet Curt and Chris because I didn't know who they were.)
This year, at ECCC... I met a friend who had been waiting in line for the Boondock Saints to show up for their Friday signings. Unlike the other celebrity signings, this booth was in the dealer's room. My friend had gotten there early, so we were in the front. The Saints came in and there was an uproar.

Two kids with huge Nerf guns passed by, and what's a Saint to do but steal said Nerf gun? So, Nerf guns in hand, the Saints shouted what they could remember of the prayer and shot darts into the crowd.

And Sean Patrick Flannery shot me in the boob with a stolen Nerf gun. He yelled "Oh God! Sorry!" and when my friend went to get her DVD autographed, I pointed at where Flannery hit me and told him he had great aim; he probably would've made a cleavage shot if I'd been wearing a lower-cut shirt.

So yeah, boob shot by one of the Saints. I should've kept that dart. D:
Long story short, at San Diego, we ended up in an elevator with Xander from Buffy at some fancy hotel. He was a guest there, as evidenced by the fact he was in his his pajamas and his hair was all wet. We were trying to find the Image party somewhere in that hotel. Some dude tried small-talking him and Xander was friendly enough, but dude, it was really bizarre. First floor the elevator stopped on, I prodded my brother and we got off there, both going, "That was weeeeird." For some reason, the combo of B-list nerdlebrity, fancy hotel elevator and pajamas freaked us both the heck out.
Seeing what cool dudes Dustin Nguyen and Francis Manapul are. I got talking to them about some of their cover work and they turned out to be really inspiring guys.

Also, on a sidenote one of the funnier moments at NYCC happened last year when I went up to Eddy Barrows table in Artist Alley. I thought I was telling Eddy how much I loved his illustrations and his work on War of Supermen. This went on for about 10 minutes. Not having any prior knowledge of Eddy Barrows except for seeing illustration, it turned out I was talking to his wife (or mother...not really sure) and she didn't speak a lot of English so she just kept nodding her head. Then his daughter came up and explained that she wasn't Eddy. I felt like an idiot. I felt like a bigger idiot when he came and I realized Eddy wasn't a girls name at all. Big Grin
