With the announcement that DC Universe Online is switching to play-without-paying next month, are any of you considering giving it a try?

I tried the PS3 beta and it was pretty much unplayable. Just terrible controls, terrible graphics, font size was way too small, and it was down all the time.
But for free, I could give it another shot.

I played for a bit on the PC. I liked it well enough but I didn't know anyone who played it. I'd probably give it another shot if I could get a party together.

@Agent Orange -you can't really judge it based on the beta. It was kinda SUPPOSED to be down/crashing all the time so they can iron out all the bugs. That's what makes it a BETA TEST, not a DEMO.
That being said, I kinda had the same issue as most people - tried it, thought it was okay, but not worth paying a monthly fee for. Maybe I'll give it another shot, but if the way Gazillion is handling Super Hero Squad is any indication for the Marvel MMO, I'll probably jump ship as soon as that drops.

I played it for about 3 hours, enjoyed it for the most part, but also came to the conclusion that the social aspect had the most appeal; hence my question.
I also couldn't help but notice how tropes of the MMORPG don't always transfer smoothly from fantasy to superhero, e.g. "How many more henchmen does Scarecrow have? I've taken out 57 already, yet more keep running at me. Oh, and did Scarecrow give these guys uniforms? Who sells 100 matching shirts and domino masks to known super-criminals? How is that not a questionable business practice?"
You rarely ask these questions of orcs.

What's Super Hero Squad like? Is it free to play? I'm not an MMO type of guy but if anything's going to get me interested, it's light hearted superhero fun.

I played the beta version for about 3 hours and literally couldn't find anything to do. It is a realllllllly boring MMO IMO.

It's free, and pretty fun. The basic mission-style gameplay is a clicky, diablo style game (which makes sense, since Gazillion is made up primarily of the Diablo 2 team's remnants) but there is also a surprisingly deep card game that can get pretty addictive.
You don't have to pay a cent to play, and you can get a lot of enjoyment out of not paying, but I'll admit to having spent $20 over the past 2 months on characters and card booster packs. Still, $20 over the course of 2 months is a helluva lot better than $60 and a monthly fee!
Definitely worth checking out if you like SHS. http://www.heroup.com
