RE: Toon Talk - Steve! - 08-21-2011 06:25 AM I think the problem I had with Wolverine and the X-Men is that I'm sick to death of Wolverine as a character now. Morrison probably handled him the best where he was part of the central cast but sort of hung out and had his one major arc. I would've much preferred they focus on characters who always seem to get the shaft in the X-Men animated universes like Nightcrawler and Colossus (I don't think Colossus has starred in any X-Men cartoon except for Pryde of the X-Men). Also, I adore Carey's Rogue enough at this point, that I'd rather that interpretation be the new status quo for the character in all other media instead of the same old "I can't touch anyone" gimmick that's been done to death. In essence, I would kill for a more universal X-Men series. It was really getting good and had some great character development and moments. ![]() What Thomas said. What Thomas said, so, so much. I actually just made myself a DVD of the second season to watch back through it since it looks like they're never going to give it a legitimate release. That show deserved so much better than it got. If it had been on Cartoon Network instead of KidsWB, I think we'd have gotten 3 or 4 seasons of it. And he was finally meeting the JLA and oh well. I think The Batman is also criminally underrated/hated on simply for having to be the first non-TAS Batman cartoon. The writing didn't find it's legs (read: get good) until the third season, but the animation was always 5 star quality, and some of those designs were just incredible. I think some of the redesigns for that show are the best versions. (08-21-2011 05:58 AM)orangeboxen Wrote: Enjoying YJ, but the running jokes piss me off. Between Robin's weird disappear/giggle....thing and "Hello Megan!" makes me wish being able to smack cartoons was my superpower. That Robin laughing thing is one of my favorite additions to the character that I wish could be utilized in the comics. I'm pouring out a bit of my forty right now. Seriously, that show … too beautiful to live. I was watching Thundercats last night and going, "Oh, you know what show this would be a perfect lead-in to? Sym-bionic Titan! When's that coming back on, I wonder." And then I got so sad. I think some of the redesigns for that show are the best versions. I was happy when they finally squared Batman's chin off for the last couple of seasons! And I think the animation actually rubbed off ontp JLU. There would be some tiny bits during JLU where Batman lands crouched and the edges of his cape spread out really fluid and drape-y like The Batman version. Between Robin's weird disappear/giggle....thing and "Hello Megan!" makes me wish being able to smack cartoons was my superpower. Why? Not trolling, just curious. It stuck out for me in the Bane episode, where everyone told Robin to cut that shit out. It just made me think "Why is he laughing maniacally while his teammates are under fire? Is this actually Frank Miller Robin?" Overall think the program's great, actually like Robin's whelmed/underwhelmed callback and Kid Flash's souvenir obsession. I'd be interested to know how you rate the designs/aesthetic actually. RE: Toon Talk - JustLukeJohnson - 08-21-2011 07:07 AM I loved YJ, and the laugh i always took to be Dick's wise cracking, lightheartedness shining through. I mean, he grew up being a circus acrobat, so he's definitely an adrenaline junkie. I loved the design of the show, which isn't a surprise, because I think Bruce Timm had some involvement in it. RE: Toon Talk - Thomas Is Awesome - 08-21-2011 07:36 AM I don't think Timm had anything to do with the show at all. I love the show on the whole, but seriously can't stand the Superman being an asshole thing. Seriously cannot stand. RE: Toon Talk - chris graves - 08-21-2011 07:38 AM Kinda bugs me how Kon acts like the Hulk of the team sometimes. the YJ design for Aquaman is bad-ass tho! I loved it as a kid and randomly came across the NES game a few months ago and it kinda snowballed from there I tried to bring back "let's get dangerous" as a catch phrase, but I only got blank stares. I still say it to myself, at night, before I go to bed. The awesome thing is all of the shows you guys have mentioned my 5 year old daughter and 1 year old son are SUPER into. Which means kids are given the chance to get into really cool shows. RE: Toon Talk - winnr - 08-21-2011 12:19 PM (08-21-2011 04:40 AM)thechrishaley Wrote: Also fantastic is The Looney Tunes Show. Oh man, I totally forgot about this show! I think I saw a clip of it maybe on your tumblr Chris, like ages ago, and it looked fantastic but completely forgot about it. How long has it been going for? I'm watching a bunch of Adventure Time right now actually and it's so great. The original pilot clip was such absolute perfection that it's hard to move past that sometimes but once you do, it's great. One question, did they change the voice actor for Finn or did he just grow up because something's different. As far as Young Justice goes, there are a lot of little things that bug me about these versions of the characters, like how Konner is a total dick but Megan sees him as this great guy, and Robin's plain clothes, omg, those sunglasses, just stop. But overall the show is pretty great so I'm okay with it. None of it breaks the show for me. |
