Sorry, Bendis, but I just can't handle your take on the Avengers.

I need to give Avengers EMH another try. Watched a bunch of episodes with the boys and they thought it was terribly boring. Big problem they had was that they knew Iron Man and the Hulk, and those dudes were nowhere to be seen outside of the opening credits. For grown-up nerds it's a lot of fun to see all those easter eggs ("hey it's Mockingbird!") they peppered the series with, but for kids, it's just a waste of their time. Contrasting it with JLU (which is unfair, but hey), my kids are now Kirby addicts because of the way they weaved the mythology in by including the big names but not letting them dominate the stories.

The first, I'd say, six or so episodes were duds for me (except the Ant-Man/Wasp one), as they were all introductions to characters I'm waaaay too familiar with. Once that gets over with, the team gets set, things start to get rolling.

Well, there was that four issue mini-series that did tie into the show.

also, their WW2 is a bigger copout than Justice League using SS symbol instead of swastikas. why can't our cartoons beat up nazis anymore?

Did someone say "large scale Superboy"?

I'll get it because I love Kon El and I love the Young Justice show, but i really was hoping for his regular costume. Almost perfect but not quite is almost worse than not at all. Mixed feelings. Some one give me a sigh five here.

See, I wanted this to be his full time uniform, so I'm completely excited to get a figure of this version.

There's a tshirt and jeans version in the 4" line though.

The white Cadmus suit is probably the best thing Conner has worn ever. Both in the comics and in the series.

i've not gotten around to YJ yet. how does it compare to the old david/nauck series where they cruised around in a kirby cycle? i may have to give it a tickle at some point.

superboy & the LOSH is awesome, a fun show that really ought to have gotten better time than it did.

and adventure time?

i didn't think anything could beat beemo until lemongrab appeared.

and we're nine pages in and nobody's mentioned MLP: friendship is magic yet? i'll be the first to break the man-silence and say it's awesome and you know it is.

RE: Toon Talk - deebeemonster - 08-23-2011 09:08 PM

I tried watching the first episode of MLP to see what all the fuss was about and I couldnt even finish it. Not because I was disgusted or "Ew, girls!" it was just completely not my thing at all. I can't see why people are losing their minds over this show.

RE: Toon Talk - mitzlovesdazzler - 08-23-2011 09:44 PM

y'know, that was exactly my first reaction to the show. i watched the first and switched it off after five minutes and didn't think anything of it for a couple months, until i caught a later episode.

the first two episodes set it up like some kind of light vs darkness quest series but once you get past the second episode it's all amusing, cute nonsense. i'm not sure why it's took off like it has, but i can definitely see the charm, it's got a good sense of humor and doesn't get too wrapped up in itself. i think it's problem is it's up against two stigmas - the first that it's a girl's show and the second being all the associated hype generated by turd-pits like 4chan.

as someone who didn't like it at first, i recommend you watch a couple of the random episodes, it's a grower.

changing subjects - is the GL series all going to be CGI? i can't watch the trailer atm for some reason, but looks kind of interesting that the red lanterns are in it.

RE: Toon Talk - deebeemonster - 08-23-2011 11:22 PM

The GL show is all CGI. Looks really fantastic, looking forward to it.

Kinda pissed that Bruce Timm and WB animation department won't grow some balls and show the red lanterns puking blood in a show that is intended for adults, teenagers, and children.
