Amalgam Comics
For those of you not in the know, in 1996, DC and Marvel teamed up to produce a number of comics in which they combined their characters to create new ones, ie. Batman + Wolverine = Dark Claw, Ironman + Green Lantern = Iron Lantern, Superman + Captain America = (The imaginatively named) Super-Soldier, and Lex Luthor + Red Skull = Green Skull. And that`s the story of where my avatar is from.
Anyway, it was an interesting concept, and utilized the cutesy idea of just pretending to pick up in the middle of a supposedly long-running series. So anyway, to the point, I think this was a really neat idea, but some of the character combinations were just bizarre; Daredevil + Deathstroke = Dare the Terminator (who was inexplicably female) Jonah Hex + Generation X = Generation Hex (Which doesn`t seem to have had much to do with Jonah Hex other than a western setting) the X-Men + the Metal Men = the Magnetic Men. Weird ass combos. So my question, and the discussion value for this thread is; What character combinations would you have liked to see. And maybe explain why. Personally, I`d like to see: Cassandra Cain + X-23 Deathstroke + Taskmaster (Obvious, really) Cable + Booster Gold Spider-Man + Static Shock |

RE: Amalgam Comics
I LOVED Amalgam. To be honest I would totally buy a ton of monthlies, especially JLX, Judgment League Avengers, Magneto and the Magnetic Men, Thorion... come the demon Etrigan., come the demon Etrigan., come the demon Etrigan.
How about a Gillen and McKelvie comic where a Phonomancing Scott Pilgrim/Madman travels back to the 60's to hang out with the amalgamated original Teen Titans and X-Men (the X-Teens) to fight a villain who is stealing the magic from Mod musicians to turn it into shitty Disco that would usurp the tide of musical history! EDIT: Since we gots yelled at, (although I did have the X-Teens); Novice Phonomancer Frank Pilgrim, aka the Mad Scott due to his distinctive, though phony, faux Franz Ferdinand Scottish accent obtained after sever head trauma suffered while tripping face first into the speakers during a gig with his band Atomic Sex Bob-oms at the famous Snap City club 'The Krypto-Rocket', travels through time with his beautiful redheaded girlfriend/drummer Josephine 'Joe' Pine to team with the young, restless, sexually charged, and extremely fashionable (read, a new costume every 4 pages) X-Teens, comprised of The Wondrous Marvel (the red headed Jean Troy, raised in secret on Themiscyra due to the ancient prophecy that spelled doom for the Amazons when a red headed wonder would ravage the island riding the back of a fiery bird, who was sent into the man's world to teach the meaning of beauty that is both adored by the Amazons and burns brightly in her eyes), Quick Freeze (Wally Westington III, who, thanks to both his incredible speed and ability to generate ice at nearly any temperature, attempts to remain in his father's good graces by working shifts, for which he runs across the Atlantic three times a day, at the multimillion Ice Forest Corp., which provides palatial plantations of flawless frost for wealthy, though not always moral, industrialists and moguls in desert climates, and supplies his friends with the means for the leisures of clothing, dance, and big tech superhero gear they have become accustomed to), Redeyed Robin (Dick Summers is the ward of the great hero and swashbuckling playboy-space-pirate Black Bat, who competes with Quick Freeze for the hand of the Wondrous Marvel by throwing around even more money on even more ridiculous equipment, yet at heart he is the true leader of the X-Teens, will most surely be the most successful at super-heroing and at life, and will eventually win the heart of Jean, only to have her tragically die many, many, many, many times over), Aqua Angel (this mystery simply known as Warth was raised in the sea by angelfish, only to be adopted by a wealthy couple who loved and nurtured the child until his flipper-like wings began to sprout from his back, at which time he was sent to England to attend a private school where his foster parents were promised his water wings would not be a problem, where he became fast friends with Westington III and joined him in adventure), and finally Speed Beast (Roy McCoy the master of foot archery and science, who's vast intellect is only surpassed by his Bond-like fluency with women, his moniker belies a sinister secret of abuse to a new mutant designer drug that the team's current base of operations in Swinging London, just off Carnaby Street, gives him easy access which will eventually turn young, handsome Roy to a Hyde-ian fate against his current Dorian Grey-like exterior and swagger). Together these five fight the injustices of London's filthiest corners of crime while enjoying all the excess a group of young super powered teens can have in Swinging London, and with the Mad Scott at their side they must fight, swing, and groove their way to the heart of Denmark Street to keep Brother Unus the Undanceable and his Brotherhood of Evil Music from forever destroying pop music as we know it!!!!! RE: Amalgam Comics
I think they missed a great opportunity by not setting that X-Patrol comic they did in the early 60's, back when Doom Patrol and X-Men were basically the same comic. Or an All-New X-Titans issue from the 80's, part of the Dark Raven Saga.
That first Spider-Boy comic is one of the most perfect things that exist, by the way. |

RE: Amalgam Comics
I do love the Amalgam comics.
I especially loved that both companies owned the characters, thus Amalgam comics and merchandise appeared in the background of a few mid-90s books. Most of all, I love that many of the characters make no sense whatsoever without an understanding of what the Amalgam universe is: e.g. Aqua-Mariner, Bizarnage, and Shatterstarfire. On the other hand, you occasionally get combinations that form a believable, stand-alone character: e.g. Hyena (Joker + Sabretooth). |

RE: Amalgam Comics
People, people, none of these ideas count unless you come up with the Amalgam name the newly created character would have!
True story, at one point a year or two ago, Evan "Doc" Shaner and I had a whole pie in the sky Amalgam pitch we were goofing around on. |

RE: Amalgam Comics
Shatterstarfire makes this dilemma slightly less difficult, yet much more excellently awkward.
