The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. It's not as brilliant as i'd heard, but is still quite good. I think it gets tagged with being so fresh and new just because it's based deeply in a culture not often seen in pop culture. There is a difference between new and seldom seen.

Tons of cartoons, and also getting caught up on breaking bad. Man, Bryan Cranston is doing some next level shit. He is SO FREAKING GOOD.

I'm working through a re-read of Joe Casey and Tom Scioli's Gødland, but after that it's the Essential Howard the Duck (again), and then Jodoroswky and Moebius' The Incal collection for the first time. (Hooray for Thwipster!)

Started watching Mad Men, but man, I don't think I can watch that show. It gives me such gas. Otherwise, I'm working through Home Movies and some previous seasons of Leverage. Also, I can't recommend NTSFD:SUV:: enough. Thursday nights, 12:15am, (so, technically Friday morning, but you know what I mean) after Children's Hospital.

Right now? The New Pornographers' Twin Cinema popped up on shuffle, but this summer's been heavy rotation of White Denim's D, Let's Wrestle's Nursing Home, Cults' sef-titled, and Peter Bjorn & John's Gimme Some.

Man I just do not get the appeal of Murakami. Just do not. I enjoy surrealism, but his work feels broken some how.Like it's almost there but not quite. I also don't dig on how he fetishizes western culture.
