I'd like to know, but I don't want to actually support Red Hood And The Outlaws. Does it have something to do with his dick?

RE: Official DCnU Discussion Thread
I said it on Twitter: the OH MY FUCKING GOD upping of sex in this week's DC is just pornographic. I don't mean in the Bangbus way, I mean in the "cheap exploitation of sex to get attention without actually writing anything meaningful around it" way. I get sex. I love sex! And sexiness! But come the holy fuck on, guys. The Starfire scene makes the Gen13 Rainmaker-Likes-Girls scene seem like fucking Proust.

Starfire's race is now one of total sluts who don't remember who they bang. She slept with Jason Todd before the story and Roy Harper during it. She also claims not to remember being in love with Dick Grayson. Check out my podcast, Bat Issues. It's like Tom vs, but about Batman. |

I meant to respond to the 'Why Jason took up the Red Hood mantle' post. I knew about the sex triangle there from scansdaily & CA.

I have things to say, but honestly, she covers them pretty thoroughly. Also, from a purely pedantic story standpoint: NO ONE SHOULD EVER SHOW CATWOMAN AND BATMAN FUCKING. The whole point is that it's perpetually subtextual. |

RE: Official DCnU Discussion Thread
Okay, I know I said on Twitter the other night that during a conversation with Dylan, I realized I have not loved any of the New 52.
But then a strange thing happened. After that I proceeded to suck it up and try to read some of the ones from this week I hadn't gotten to yet. I figured Wonder Woman had such a great creative team and the general (though limited) buzz I'd heard about it was positive, so I decided to start with it. Enjoyed it. Having heard absolutely nothing about it one way or the other, I moved on to Supergirl #1. Enjoyed it. Two books in a row? You can imagine my surprise. I remembered having heard a generally positive response to Batman #1, so it was next. Totally enjoyed it. "Should I stop now?", I asked myself. I recalled someone saying they'd really enjoyed Birds of Prey #1, so I decided to give it a try. Perfectly enjoyable. With each new book, I would think that this would surely be the one to break the streak, but as I moved to Nightwing #1, then DC Comics Presents #1, then Green Lantern Corps #1, then Captain Atom #1, then Blue Beetle #1, I found myself interested to see where each of the stories was going and eager to read the next issue. Even though this week also contained Catwoman #1 and Red Hood & the Outlaws #1, I think nine books I really enjoyed puts New 52 Week 3 in the "Success" column for me personally. |
