RE: Great comics dead before their time
This doesn't really count, but it kills me that the New 52 has messed so much with the last chapter of Grant Morrison's Batman epic. I know we're still getting Batman: Leviathan next year, but those little changes are killing me. I loved Dick Grayson in the cowl, and now that's gone. We're already seeing some of the fallout in the leviathan one-shot in december, which just collects those two Batman Inc comics that didn't make it out in time for the relaunch, where Stephanie Brown has been redrawn as Spoiler when she was supposed to be Batgirl. This is stupid for two reasons. First of all, the whole point of this issue was Batman teaming up with Batgirl, and secondly, the tie-in issues from Batgirl have already been released. Stephanie Brown went to England as Batgirl, then came back to America as Batgirl. By changing her to Spoiler you aren't simplifying continuity, you're over-complicating it. But I guess that's a running theme of the New 52.

When we look back on Grant Morrison's Batman run, there'll always be that awkward section, ten issues out from the finale, where DC decided to fuck with continuity. And that's really annoying.

Ugh, rants.

RE: Great comics dead before their time
also, the steph brown batgirl run was pretty fun, so that's a good addition.

the original Jamie Reyes Blue Beetle Run almost counts, but they lost the great writer at 25 then it limped along. I like leverage all right as a show, but I kinda wish it had started two years later than it did.

the Marvel Cosmic stuff that DnA were doing got really shifted around, and both Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy were very good. then the lead characters from both died, though likely not that permanently.

This is a bit preemptive but, Northlanders. It's a shame that got canceled and is wrapping up.

Check out my podcast, Bat Issues. It's like Tom vs, but about Batman.

Yeah this whole New 52 thing has really worked against Vertigo.

Speaking of Vertigo I really liked The Vinyl Underground and thought it deserved more than just 12 issues. I may have been the only one actually reading it though haha

I think it's a weird time for Vertigo, two of their best series are wrapping up their runs (DMZ and Scalped) and all of the "company" characters getting yanked back into the DCU. Ultimately I think that will be helpful because they won't have to worry about getting a Swamp Thing series running or whatnot and instead aim for more creator-owned stuff.

Fables is still going pretty strong with a new on-going spinning out soon and American Vampire, Sweet Tooth, and iZombie are all solid series that look to have long runs. Hopefully they'll find a new crime book to fill the giant hole left by Scalped.

Both OMAC series if the reboot continues to be the lowest-selling title of the 52.

It doesn't necessarily feel like DC is putting a lot of effort into Vertigo, not that they've really been pushing anything in the line over the last few years. Marvel and DC have like a combined 9 creator owned ongoing series right now (not counting the Brian Wood stuff DC is canceling, I guess Scalped is ending soon enough, and it's hard to count Powers since it comes once every leap year now). Which is really depressing when you think about it, because these books are almost a luxury to the medium and neither publisher does much to try get them to a wider audience, even though these books (or comics of their ilk) have the best shot of reaching a wider audience.

Anywho, I'll throw out Quantum and Woody, Phonogram (considering Gillen and McKelvie had more stories they wanted to tell) and Wildcats 3.0. I could say Steampunk, but I haven't really met another person who liked that series as much as idea (which is understandable).
