RE: X-Men: Schism
I thought the whole split was handled really, really, really well, up until the actual fight. It just felt like one of those "dudes wanna see Wolverine and Cyclops fight" moments, and I was really disappointed that they had to mention Jean at all. I felt that leaving that unsaid made it so much more powerful, this underlying conflict that neither wanted to mention.
That said, I'm really excited about Wolverine and the X-Men #1. That roster is like the roster I've wanted to see all my life, I just didn't know it. Logan, Kitty, Quentin Quire, Dark Beast, Ice Man and Idie (okay I don't have any attachment to Idie, and I'm much more familiar with Ultimate Bobby Drake, but yeah), and the fact that it's going to be in Westchester! That's like icing on the cake. So yeah, I liked everything about the book, I liked everything about the split, but that fight was so forced and over the top. But I'll admit, Scott putting his hand over Logan's clenched fist was pretty great.

RE: X-Men: Schism
I liked it, but didn't love it. I'm just not sure that Aaron stuck the landing here. I mean, I get it: Wolverine's done the things he's done so kids like Idie wouldn't have to, and here's Scott, all but tossing her onto the pile of bodies built up in defense of Xavier's dream; but I felt like the reason for the split could have been a little more explicitly spelled out, maybe?
Plus, I thought Kubert was hovering just above terrible, especially when you look at the artists that preceded him on this. Dylan Todd /// Design Portfolio /// Etsy / Tumblr / Twitter |

Actually, I thought Alan Davis was the weak link in this series (which really surprised me). Aside from the sequence where Scott blasts the sentinel in issue 4, I was really underwhelmed (and for the record, I almost without a doubt always love Davis work). More shockingly for, I though Kubert handled the quieter scenes in the issue better than the action scenes. I still don't agree with the central issue of the "schism" or at least the two characters having the argument, but I've gone over that enough in this thread. I think my main problem is the idea that Cyclops is treating the student age kids as soldiers first and foremost, which is something that's been refuted several times over the last few years. I'm also not sure how Logan is going to prevent them from not getting involved in crazy fight situations, because if there's one things we've learned about teenage X-Men, it's that they have no problem with and will get mixed up in shit at the drop of a hat. |

As much as I enjoyed Schism -- I think the Alan Davis portion of the Wolvie/Cyclops fight is INSTANT CLASSIC -- I could not buy into Wolverine's stance AT ALL. The mutant race is nearly extinct and there's a giant robot out to kill anyone -- and Logan's worried about whether they'll take some time to go to the mall and eat? C'mon dude, you have knives for hands, quit being such a wuss. @djeljosevic + Comics Bulletin + Tumblr + The Ghost Engine = ???? |

RE: X-Men: Schism
Sacrificing yourself in order to protect future generations and win them the freedom to live without prejudice makes you a wuss?
Guess that means a lot of people need to change their attitude towards the people that fought revolutions to free their country from colonialism. |

RE: X-Men: Schism
Even teenagers fought in wars for independence and freedom, it's nothing new nor is it hard to comprehend. It's not about becoming killers, it's about survival and protecting those you love.
