NYCC was a zoo this year. Still a really good show, but holy shit, I have NEVER seen a Sunday that crowded.

If you're on the west coast, I HIGHLY recommend both ECCC and Stumptown Comics Fest. The former is a great, very accessible all-purpose comics show with a lot of top-line creators but not the entertainment bleed or insane crowding of SDCC; the latter, a fantastic, more indie-focused show.

Also, GeekGirlCon, which I cannot recommend enough. And, if you're a gamer-type, PAX.
