SDCC is overcrowded, overpriced, and gradually edging out comics content. If you want a good west-coast con, try ECCC--it's big enough to get big east-coast talent and small enough that you'll actually get to interact with 'em, and still very comics focused. You won't have to stand in line all day for panels, and you might even get the chance to ask questions in 'em. You can get an affordable hotel room within walking distance, the pros you meet will be a lot less panicked and a lot friendlier, and there's no starfucker-y after-party scene so the post-show bar circuit is fantastic.

ECCC > SDCC 4-EVA.

Thank you for the advice, and I would love to come up to ECCC, but I think I may still try to make a katabatic journey out of Fish Taco Con. I'd be paying for tickets, gas to and from LA, and food, as my girlfren has a place for us to crash down there. I think it would be fun to see, especially as I have never been to a major con (the closet I've been is Wizard World Philadelphia which, well we can leave that as that for now). If I can figure out a way to get up to Seattle on School's Dime, I'd be there (especially as I have family there and it is one of my favourite cities in the world), but until then I think I'm stuck with the Bay Watch Blues.
