I've been reading Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson's Beasts of Burden. It's really good. Like if We3 and B.P.R.D. had a litter of puppies. You should read it.

Giffen et. al.'s brilliant, hilarious run on Defenders--now finally in a TPB. It flew largely under the radar, which is a damn crime--it's satire in the same general vein as Nextwave, but with more wit and self-parody and less in-your-face manic bizarreness.

Here's a bad phone photo of my favorite page--no spoilers, but one of the subtlest, nerdiest "HOLY HELL DID THEY REALLY JUST DO THAT?!" gags I have ever seen in a comic:

Why you should be reading...Heart

Because it's not often where someone releases an MMA-themed comic book that anyone, even someone who is not a fan of MMA/UFC (Like me), can pick up and absolutely love. It's more about the character's journey and development than it is MMA. And issue #2 is on sale next week. Give this one a shot, guys. If the second issue is anything like the first, you won't be disappointed.

Edit: Okay, issue two just blew issue one out of the fucking water. I am seriously in love with this series and am so sad it's not an ongoing.

There was about 6 months last year when I could just. not. stop. evangelizing about this book. It's beautiful and funny and heartbreaking and really everything comics should be. For real, the last page of the second issue still makes me tear up just thinking about it. Great comics.

I will throw my voice of support behind Beasts of Burden as well if that's worth anything to anyone.

I'd also like to say (without spoiling anything) that if you haven't read this issue, you most definitely should..
