The New 52 is.... The Old 52?

So we all know about the relatively recent tendency of writers at DC to keep rolling thinks back to the way they were when they were young.
But with this new 52 thing, and the fact that Earth-2 is apparently making a triumphant return, I kind of have to wonder if the legacy of Crisis on Infinite Earths has been completely erased.
Earth-2, all the "classic" versions of characters being back costume, it;s kind of disconcerting.

So, discussion value: Am I right, is this whole New 52 thing gradually revealing itself as an attempt to return to the Silver Age status quo? Is this a good thing?

IIRC, DiDio confirmed that all Crises were completely wiped from the new 52. So none of them ever happened.

I blame Geoff Johns and his "Guys we can make this book a thousand times better if we bring back the original boring white version!" writing style.

Yeah, I haven't heard about any of this other than the Non-Crisises (which makes no sense, case in point: the nonexistence of Wally and existence of Barry but the existence of Hal and Kyle simultaneously [ the causes of and caused by multiple Crisises], but hey, it's comics, and so far I'm enjoying what I'm reading and dropping what I'm not). And besides, we knew coming in that the Multiverse still exists, either within or outside of continuity, as Grant Morrison is going to be shooting boners of amazingness at us in the (hopefully) near future with Multiversity. Also, I enjoy seeing some Silver Age zaniness mixed in with a new sensibility and awareness of intellectual themes and ideas. Now you have two ends of the spectrum on this, let's call them the Johns and Morrison termini, but as far as I am concerned I would rather see a shitty Silver Age ripoff that is jovial and enjoyable, than an early Nineties ripoff with gratuitous boobs, big guns, and "grown up mean violence" attitudes.

And are you talking about Earth 2 as in that universe in which the supposed JSA title will supposedly take place? You wouldn't want to see a James Robinson written JSA kicking ass and taking names against Nazi Robots/Magicians/Soldiers, or investigating undercover spies/fighting the mob/maybe even solving a noir-esque murder case? That sounds like my kind of comic, but that's me.

Half and half. by destroying the crises a lot of things that worked about the silver age can come back, like a seperate earth for the JSA and such. but we also have a lot of modern stories standing, under the same pretense of them working or being crucial to the character.

Which works for me. Though it does throw up confusion, like... did 52 happen? Or just some of the events that stick out for certain characters, like Animal Man's journey through space or Batwoman's crime bible storyline?

It does boggle the mind somewhat around that point

I think it was a thing where they decided to just say "Yeah, no events happened" hoping people wouldn't worry about it.

Right, sorry, I caught a scan of the editorial (is that the term) at the back of the Huntress mini and saw a mention on the DC blog. I can't find the link but if you search you should find that a JSA series has been announced and it's to be set on Earth-2.

I kinda like the idea bringing back Earth-2. At the very least, it can help with the idea of there being too many (superheroes, secret agencies, universe-wide threats, come the demon Etrigan.)
