So get this, my buddy keeps griping to me about how they need to bring back "the real El Cucaracho, not this new fake kid." Sure, the new kid's origin of alien nanomachines giving him the proportionate strength and invulnerability of a cockroach is a little goofy and at this point a little tired, but c'mon, are you telling me that a guy who gets bitten by a radioactive cockroach in a Mexican restaurant and decides to put on a luchador mask and smash shape-shifting aliens with his meaty fists whilst traveling across the Americas in a custom van is a better origin story/storytelling engine? Or how about the El Cucaracho before him? A mystical cockroach totem bonding with the spirit of a luchador priest and making him fight demons in an ersatz Mexico City? And let's not even get started on 90's El Cucaracho. Cockroach Armor? The Cucaracho Clone Chronicles? Yeesh.

So yeah, is my buddy right? How do we feel about this new kid? He has the powers. He has the lucha mask. But is he a real El Cucaracho?
