Spoileriffic Dark Night Rises Chat
For discussion about the movie after seeing it. No spoiler tags or anything since I figure everyone will see the movie after a while!
Go! Anyone bothered by the first few minutes of the film besides me? Changeling and Socialfist. Check those out. |

RE: Spoileriffic Dark Night Rises Chat
Only thing that bothered me about the first few minutes was when Bane first spoke, that was a bit jarring. It was like his mask had a built in loudspeaker, though I'm pretty sure your issues with the first few minutes were different than mine. Although as I think more about it, it felt like the beginning of the movie could have used more set up. Like, we get a quick look at Gordon talking about the Dent Act and then we move on to the introduction of Bane. But overall I enjoyed the movie. I felt like it was a good way to end Nolan's take on Batman. Bane was a force to be reckoned with and I thought the initial fight between him and Batman had this sort of raw feel to it. Especially with the coup de grace of him breaking the Bat. The camera tricks used to make Bane seem large and menacing were great. I was also surprised by how well Anne Hathaway was as Catwoman. Going in to the movie, I had somewhat low expectations for her since I've only known her in more bubbly roles like the princess of Genovia rather than something more gritty in tone like the Nolan Batverse.
I do have some quibbles with the movie though. It was a bit clunky and could've used some cuts or a re-write here and there (like the Robin reveal scene). And I was a bit disappointed how they pretty much sidelined Alfred in the movie and how they sort of did the same to Gordon, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman were criminally underused. It also felt like the movie didn't really have a clear cut protagonist. To me, John Blake felt like the main character as it focused more on him and somewhat less on Bruce Wayne/Batman. And that reveal of Miranda being Talia? It was as if Bane was suddenly regulated to the role of henchmen. A very menacing figure, but no longer under his own machinations, never mind how he was quickly dispatched with. |

RE: Spoileriffic Dark Night Rises Chat
The inspiration or at very least the ending of Rises.
I have become throughly convinced that everything about each of the Nolan Batman films is a joke. "Why so serious?" is a question addressed to the viewer, not Batman. It's asking us what we want more, seriousness or bomb throwing. Twitter Tumblr Spotify |

I think when people started complaining about being unable to understand Bane they just redubbed the voice since they didn't need to synch it to anything. And the redub was by Sean Connery. I never thought there would be a 250 million dollar adaptation of No Man's Land, but I was wrong.
