Man of Steel
I'm surprised there isn't a thread here already for opinions on the film...

Anyway, I can't count myself among those who loved it and leaving aside arguments on how Superman is portrayed I was really just left with a few questions about the film's own interior logic.

Those questions are as follows:

Why does Superman have trouble lifting that part of the oil rig? He’s Superman ffs.

Why doesn’t he hear Lois following him down the ice in the Arctic? He has super hearing ffs.

Why, please someone explain why, does he tell Zod EXACTLY how to overcome the sensory overload he experiences when he first exposes himself to the Earth’s atmosphere? Why doesn’t he allow himself to benefit from that tactical advantage?

Why would the people of Earth trust him if he’s already been outed as one of those same aliens?

Why doesn’t he move the fight away from heavily populated areas?

Why would the Kryptonians exile their failed coup members with a massive spaceship AND the means to terraform an entire planet?

Why does Jor El know everything? Like EVERY little thing.

Why does Superman go to destroy the big unguarded machine in the middle of the ocean, that say the military could bomb, and instead send all the humans to fight the alien spaceship that’s destroying the massively populated city of Metropolis?

Why don’t that family just run to that massive space to the right that we can see in every single shot away from Zod’s heat vision (Superman has him headlocked so his mobility is limited) and away from any danger what so ever?

Why would he fall in love with Lois and vice versa? They’ve had like two conversations.

Three people were involved in writing this film and not one of them noticed any of those plot holes? Really?

RE: Man of Steel
I'll respond to this, with either my agreement or why I thought it was okay-

Oil Rig- it's okay to show him straining, and also he could be having trouble holding the thing together- just cause you can lift all the lego pieces doesn't mean you can keep them from falling apart from 'splosions.

The Lois thing- It doesn't bother me, because on some level Superman has to "switch on" the highest reaches of super senses- the movie even goes into how overwhelming the amount of information is.

why would the people of earth trust him- because he was raised there and he keeps getting punched in the face for him.

populated areas? ugh, agreed. the real answer is "cause Zach Snyder likees that destruction porn."

Spaceship/terraform- well, they only exiled them with the spaceship, I thought they scavenged the other tech from kryptonian settlements that failed.

Jor el- agreed, though "father/deus ex machina information distributor" has weirdly become his film role.

big unguarded machine- all of the agrees.

all the other stuff, I'm with you on.

RE: Man of Steel
I haven't seen it yet, personally. I probably won't until it's on HBO like I did with the last "Batman" movie.

I can't help it if I've got a heavy flow and a wide set vagina!
I'm now on the Tweety!
I'm also tumbling!

RE: Man of Steel
I think there are things that the movie gets really right. Cavill as Clark/Superman inhabits the Superman role in the same way that Brandon Routh WAS Christopher Reeve playing Clark Kent and I think the moral core of the character is pretty much there. A lot of the performances, really, were Not Bad.

But man, the general level of fetishistic violence and that bullshit Catch-22 climax. Man.

RE: Man of Steel
It was the biggest waste of my time of the summer and I wish I saw The Wolverine instead.

Changeling and Socialfist. Check those out.

RE: Man of Steel
Wow I think I posted this before they even announced Man of Steel 2 (we'd better bring in Batman to get the fanboys back).

Anyway, just over 2 months later my feelings are now that only Thor can save me. It may be a Dark World but it looks a lot more satisfying/fun than some of the summer blockbusters. Smile
