How I Met Your Character

How I Met Your Character
Someone picks a character and everyone post (to the best of your recollection) your introduction to that character. You can post the cover or a particular panel or a series of panels/pages, whatever.

Up first is Captain America!

My first Cap comic was this little b&w paperback collection.

I'm sure I just got it at the grocery store or Wal-Mart or something.

It taught me that Cap was a BAMF.

I was terrified of Baron Blood.

Even though I had just met this Captain America, I was so worried for him. Though I wanted him to defeat this monster, when I saw this cliffhanger last page of the chapter, I was sure he was a goner. (Even though there was obviously still 2/3rds of the book left.)

Naturally, he got out of it.

This book also began my infatuation with Union Jack.

And finally the battle ends with this fairly gruesome scene..

As best as I can remember, that beheading didn't bother or upset me at all when I was little, so maybe Geoff Johns' mutilation-fests are all-ages friendly after all.

I think this comic was completely responsible for my love of Baron Blood and Union Jack and my later interest in Hammer Horror movies.

So how did you meet Captain America?

RE: How I Met Your Character
Definitely showing my age here (and not proud of this at all), but this is the first time I saw Captain America in a comic. Blush I think I was 6 or 7.

RE: How I Met Your Character
My first time reading a Cap comic was Brubaker's run. I originally (Like anyone with limited comic knowledge) assumed Captain America was "FUCK YEAH AMERICA" all the time, but I was wrong.

I can't help it if I've got a heavy flow and a wide set vagina!
I'm now on the Tweety!
I'm also tumbling!

The first comic I remember reading:

Lovely intro to comics for a four year old.

RE: How I Met Your Character
It'd have to be around 1976-77, when I was three or four, I had the Power Records w/ Cap and Falcon.
Power Records was a comic book that came with a 45rpm record that narrated the comic.
The story, "And a Phoenix Shall Arise", introduced the Phoenix, who turns out to be another villain's kid.
Well, I'll let you guys watch/read it.

And to this day, that's how Captain America sounds in my head when he speaks.

RE: How I Met Your Character
My first introduction to Captain America was through the 90s Spiderman cartoon with the Six Forgotten Warriors arc.

As far as comics go, my £1 pocket money only stretched to a copy of the Beano and a Mars bar each week when I was young (plus even if I wanted them, I had no idea where I would've bought "american" comics from) so the first actual comic I read with Cap in must've been the Batman/Cap crossover where Joker turns on the Red Skull because he doesn't like Nazis when I was on a Batman binge a few years back.

RE: How I Met Your Character
For me, I met Captain America in one of the arcade games for Marvel Vs Capcom and I thought his shield was stupid and then he killed me when I was playing Shuma Gorath.

If we're talking non-comics:
