I've filled the void with hasbro's Marvel Universe figures. Dude! Super heroes! GI Joe/Star Wars sized! And they don't suck *cougg*infinitehereos*cough*

I tried to get Haley on this bandwagon early, but he was not down with them. I contend now they are the most geek friendly mass retail action figure line EVER. I present this as evidence:

Dude. Kirby Hulk. H.E.R.B.I.E. Wolverine wearing the mask he wore in that one comic that one time 30 odd years ago. Punk Rock Storm. AND FREAKING MS LION. All casually available at big box stores. God bless you, Hasbro. Truly it is the nerd gods work you are doing.

I like them from a distance and get all excited like I'm going to buy them.. but then I see them in person and they just look crappy/ugly to me. I don't know what the deal is. I want to like them! It's been so hard not buying the Union Jack and Captain Britain.

And dude, DCUC doesn't HAVE to end. We've got a few days left to get everyone on board for that subscription. http://www.savedcuc.com/

I want that BATB Aquaman figure

It's just so...OUTRAGEOUS!

I actually got that from Chris Haley after getting outbid a half dozen times on ebay. This is why he is the best gunbro.

I think it's the articulation. Just a little clunky. I have the same issue with the Clone Wars figures. Love the sculpts, but the skinny appendages and weird articulation kill em for me.

That said, I totally own that Pre Viszla figure. Dude has a jetpack AND a Darksaber!

That perfectly describes my relationship with MiniMates.

But I loves me some Marvel Mighty Muggs.

And mine with DC Direct. Those figures have weird crotches, yo.

RE: Toys and statues and action figures
I think Marvel Universe does really well with figures that are distinctive enough to require their own molds -- their modern Thor and World War Hulk are pretty great, to name two.

But when a figure just uses a standard body, maybe with some accessories thrown on, it looks pretty awkward.

Scattered around my room:

I love the hell out of that Prof. Layton revoltech. It even comes with a table, chair and tea set for when he wants to take a break from solving puzzles.
