RE: Ideal Avengers Team?
Once I read about Force Works on Wikipedia and now I'm glad I wasn't reading comics in the 90s. There is no way that was a good thing, was it?

RE: Ideal Avengers Team?
Man, I hated Force Works without reading it because I had to bag 50 of those guys back at the comic shop and they came with a poster or something in the cover so that was really stupid.

RE: Ideal Avengers Team?
it wasn't that bad- it was written by DnA, who did all the awesome cosmic stuff with Nova, come the demon Etrigan. The art wasn't my thing, though.
I'd go Black Panther as leader, Ms. Marvel, Nova (I don't care if he's dead, he got better) with his sidekick Cosmo the super awesome dog, Hawkeye and Songbird as the core, with Cap (I'd say that he's too busy to lead the team, because I want a different dynamic), Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Thor, Iron man and Mockingbird rotating around as part timers. I think Cap being in a non leadership role when that's his instinctive position could create some nice drama. I'd like to add a Telepath, but I'm having trouble thinking of one I want on the team. Maybe Mantis? |

RE: Ideal Avengers Team?
Hmm...
Hank Pym/Giant Man. - Avengers veteran, big (literal!) and bold leader. He'd make the Avengers more about being a team working for the betterment of mankind. Not in a "black ops" proactive way, but in a "tackling the REAL issues" way. Billy Kaplan/Wiccan - Magic, powerful magic. Especially w/his connection to the Scarlet Witch. It'd be really interesting also to see him, a younger teen hero w/experience, butt heads with Power Man (see below). Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird - Espionage/non-"powered" hand-to-hand combatant, also a veteran. Could definitely bring the non-SHIELD intelligence contacts to the table. I have a soft spot for superheros who use batons as weapons, I just think it's a really cool weapon (Daredevil, Nightwing, come the demon Etrigan). Victor Alvarez/Power Man - I like the idea of a "young gun" hero being on the Avengers, some of my earliest exposures to the Avengers in comics were the era when Justice and Firestar were introduced to the team. Plus, he's got the powerhouse element going for him, something every team needs. Especially one that isn't expected (because he's not a physically big guy). Carol Danvers/Ms Marvel - An Avengers veteran, a military veteran, she brings flight to the team, plus more raw power w/her abilities. I think it'd be cool to see her go through a similar thing that happened w/Pym, where there's no "Oh woe is me wah wah" and more "I GOT FUCKIN' POWERS, LET'S GO SAVE THE WORLD!". Melissa Gold/Songbird - I love this character, I think she's my favorite Thunderbolt ever. Also, the idea of her as having the powers and experience but not the name recognition of "she was in the Avengers," could be a cool thing to see, trying to prove that she's there to stay, and not going to run back to the familiarity of the TBolts the instant she doubts herself. I put way too much thought into this...[/i] |

I didn't have mockingbird because I thought mockingbird and songbird would be too many birds, and I like songbird more.

RE: Ideal Avengers Team?
I know this breaks the initial rules, but I think it would be a blast to read.
Cyclops - tons of experience leading a team Invisible Woman - versatile powerset, strong second in command Speed - inexperienced, lots of raw power Rocket Racoon - unpowered but awesome, experience with extraterrestrials Bruiser - unreliable front-line fighter Dr Doom - occult and technology, never know when he's going to turn on you |

RE: Ideal Avengers Team?
I'd have a fun, odd-ball sort of team:
Hawkeye: a personal favorite of mine, Hawkeye encapsulates what it means to be an Avenger. His past isn't perfect (trained by supervillains, started off as a small-time crook, come the demon Etrigan.) but he's proven himself to be a true hero. The rest of the team is sort of rag-tag, so he has to rally them together as a team Mockingbird: Hawkeye's wife; the team mom and at times the de facto leader. Because the team needs a kickass lady to lay the hurt on some baddies. Also I like having a pair of non-powered heroes leading a bunch of superpowered guys Terror: The Initiative was one of the first books I picked up when I got into comics a few years back and I have a certain affection for all the characters introduced in the book. I chose Terror because of his unique powerset and his connections to Nightmare. Banshee: My favorite X-man, currently deceased. He's an agent of Interpol as well as an Irishman (represent) plus he'd be fun to have on the team as a fun uncle-type to balance out Hawkeye and Mockingbird Dr. Strange: the Master of Mystic Arts; I like the idea of a team of secret agents and hormonal kids getting dragged across mind-warping dimensions by some kook with glowy hands. Plus Nightmare is one of his rogues, creating a interesting dynamic with Terror Noh-Varr: Marvel Boy, founder of the New Kree Empire, Protector of Earth, and originally an interdimensional teenager with a bad attitude. Another personal favorite, I can see him alternately kicking ass and eating really weird combinations of foods. The team is set-up like a family, more than just a super-team, but without the ties of say, the Fantastic Four. The comedy element would help balance out the cosmic, universe-saving aspect. Creative: Jonathan Hickman and Jemma Salume |
