OK so this thread should seem pretty self explanatory, take two concepts from the 'reboots' of the big two and smash them together. This is not a simple naming station, however, as one should give a bit of back story or ongoing plot, and the characters should make sense when thrown together, ie. 'Uncanny X-Titans' sounds cool, but what is the principle? what makes it cool?

And so:

The Indestructible Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Frankenstein has been recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. after he was bonded to super scientist Bruce Banner in an experiment gone awry (Banner was attempting to break through the 4th Wall of Science and prove that magic is nothing more than chaotic, misunderstood energy held in check by giant black, throbbing energy dots that appears whenever 'magic' is used in the 52NOW-verse). Banner realizes that the monster within him can be used for good, but with the use of S.H.I.E.L.D. technology on the beast, through the field equipment he is suited with, Banner can study him and figure out how to be rid of this 'disease'. Father Fury has agreed to this union, as he sees an opportunity to harvest both one of the greatest scientific minds on the planet and one of the most unstoppable forces. Frank, completely aware of the situation and Banner's view of him as a disease, wants to be freed as well so he can continue to hunt evil through the land, but teams with S.H.I.E.L.D. and Banner so he can combat what he knows is the on horizon, the terrible onslaught of the Abomination, a scientific experiment gone awry that mixed the most horrid creatures of ancient Greece and with monster myths, who has control over the minds of young, impressionable girls and forces them to commit robberies and crimes to rebuild an abhorrent faux-Grecian paradise with his monstrous face as that of the sun. Will the unlikely duo of science and fiction harmonize and defeat the upcoming onslaught of evil? Will scientific rhetoric beat down the banter of Milton? or will the flowery poetry of the monster made man soften the cold metal edges of Banner's heart? Stay tuned faithful followers in a tale too shocking we could only call it, Lo, What Beast Within the Machine Bloom?

Hi everybody!

So I was thinking about ways of getting conversations going on the forum again and I thought, why not try to have someone post a topic from a certain comic, book, movie, tv show, painting, come the demon Etrigan. that can be easily attained by everyone, either via internettes or library (if you have a link help everybody out) and have some semi-intellectual but not necessarily overly complex discussions of themes, tropes, subtexts, composition styles, writing technique, character development, and so forth. Basically a way to talk about what's going on in the things were interested in while not having to write a dissertation nor a blog post, but getting ideas out there, having some fun, and possibly learning something.

So, as an example:

I just reread All-Star Superman and was fascinated with the representation of characters as heroes or villains, or rather the misunderstanding of the desires of characters due to their presentation by Morrison. Examples: From the first panels when we are introduced to Quintum and his merry band there is a deceiver in the midsts of the Neo Argonauts, exposed very quickly as Luthor's genetic plant. Speaking of Luthor, the Man of Steel's arch-nemesis is also introduced as a two-face scoundrel. "Luthor... We released you from jail to work for us, for your country..." says General Lane as he see's Lex controlling the orbital beast. And how does the b(a)old maestro respond? "[...] I know I promised I wouldn't waste my intellect on Kryptonite Robots and elaborate Death Traps. I know that. But [...] I'm getting older and... and he isn't"

Then, even Superman presents his double nature, despite Clark being as real and truthful as Superman. Although Lois refuses to believe that there could be anything but Superman, the duality of Superman is not only undeniable but necessary, just as it is for every other character: the Unknown Superman of 4500 AD must be Kal and Unknown, Lois is reporter and Superwoman, Samson and Atlas begin as time traveling heroes and yet are revealed as thieves, guardian and ancient hero Ultra-Sphinx becomes an unknowing challenge to be overcome, and suspicious Zibarro the poet and man of self sacrifice.

There are many other examples, however, and they all seem point to a conclusive ending, a summation that is, in my opinion, a near perfect Superman story.

But what do you guys think? Are there any other characters or situations that could be placed within this context? Is there a purpose to this? What possible synthesis could I possibly presuppose from this dialectic discussion? Or am I pulling this out of me arse?

Hang tight, true friends, again! and all will be revealed. And maybe you can help me figure this out.

Also, why the heck does E T C. change to 'Come the Demon Etrigan'?

So I don't know about everyone but I enjoy cooking and I have my lazy recipes that look good and that are worth cooking so how about we talk personal recipes, make exchanges and stuff.

Crazy Fajita Not Fajitas

1 lb chicken cubed or sliced bite size
2 green bell peppers - diced
2 onions - diced
1/4-1/2 cup olive oil
spices
1 big plastic baggie
--------
After chopping your ingredients, put them in the plastic bag and then start adding spices - usually I'll do cumin, cayenne pepper, cinnamon and brown sugar - varying amounts - but you can add in a lot of stuff. I've used everything from Coke to Worchestshire Sauce to chocolate jimmies.
After adding your spices add the olive oil, close the bag, mush it around/mix it up and then let it sit for at least 20-30 minutes to marinate.
After that, add it to a pan and cook that up on high heat till everything is nice and cooked and serve on tortillas or tortilla chips.
This is a dang easy college student meal, it makes enough for 4 people in my family to usually have left overs and if you don't like the flavor you can add more spices.

Cross posting this from Nerdcenaries because there are some smart people here who might be interested.

In two weeks Nerdcenaries is doing a theme week – “My Own Brand Of Justice (League)” where it is essentially "you get to pitch your Justice League team." Any members are open, you can change continuity within reason (keep true to the ideals of the character) – basically this is an Elseworld’s Justice League you’d like to see and write – even if it could never get published (my pitch lacks any of the classic team – even Justice League Detroit had Martian Manhunter!).

Would you be interested in submitting something? Drop a message via PM with your email address and I’ll get in touch via that – don’t send your article via PM!

Length? Enough to get the idea across! Three sentences might be enough depending on the length. A bad example would be: “The Flash is on the team. He can run really fast. Also he isn’t the old guy.” A better example would be “Jay Garrick, the original Flash is on the team as the moral support. He’s seen enough to know that good an evil can be a changing line and when it comes down to it, most people will do what’s right. Even so, he doesn’t trust Bumblebee because her powers remind him of an old villain.”

Art? If you want to do it with the article, go for it! If you want to do art for someone else’s article – go for it! If you want to hook up with a writer – let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Kyle Starks has a really cool comic for his.

Linkbacks? I’ll link to what you want on Nerdcenaries within reason. Links to three sites you contribute to is cool. Asking me to drop 50 links to various articles is a bit much.

Rejections? “Superman but he rapes puppies” “Wonder Woman as a man hating feminazi” are the types of stuff I’d probably reject – we aren’t DC editorial – we want interesting ideas and mature ones. Not immature ideas with adult content. I’ll let you know if there is an issue. And also if there are grammar or readability errors we’ll let you know.

Other Stuff? You don’t need familiarity with the universe, you don’t need to worry about canon, you don’t need to worry about having one character or another on the team. Make something that you’d like to see that feels different and remember – when in doubt don’t make Steve Trevor a character from Gears of War.

So if you have question here, feel free to ask.

With school long since out and no one willing to hire me (apparently no qualifications and no motivation doesn't exactly get potential employers clamoring) I've been hit by the ol' mid-summer ennui.
So I'm looking for some books to read, the type without pictures, and I figured the people here might have some good recommendations.
My buying options and budget are limited, so y'know, it has to be available at places like Chapters and preferably fairly cheap.
I'm interested in sci-fi, slightly less so in fantasy, and while I've never actually gotten my hands on any, I think I could get into old school pulps like the Shadow and Doc Savage.
I'm willing to read pretty much anything provided it's good, so please, any guidance here would be good.

A couple books I'm considering:
Doc Savage His Apocalyptic Life
Bill the Galactic Hero
The Forever War

Now that we're gradually coming up on year since DC's regrettable Flashpoint crossover and subsequent New52 relaunch, I think it's time to take inventory of the whole thing.
Basically this is about the ideas in Flashpoint, which ones were cool, or stupid, or good, or bad, or whatever.

Now, I haven't read all the Flashpoint series, but I did read Deathstroke, Batman, Green Arrow, and Project Superman, so here are a few opinions on things that were cool ideas:
I think Flashpoint Green Arrow was pretty cool. As a one shot it was a pretty complete story and the concept (that of Green Arrow as a super-corporation that Megaman'd villains by defeating them and steal theire tech) was pretty cool. While different from the classic image of Green Arrow was certainly more interesting than the relaunched version.
Cyborg. Cyborg as America's greatest hero was quite the cool concept. Admittedly the execution might not have been great, but it was neat idea, even if they were transparently setting up Cyborg as the new token black guy on the JLA.
The Outsider was a cool idea dammit. Indian Lex Luthor with superpowers? That's awesome. And the Martian Manhunter as a sort of reverse John Carter of Mars? Also awesome.
Citizen Cold was neat too, if only because it was a cool to see a character who is normally a somewhat low level supervillain as a beloved superhero.
Deathstroke as a pirate was a fun idea and the execution was actually pretty decent, even if they did end with Slade hooking with a woman about a week older than his own daughter. But up until that there were some pretty neat concepts on the go with the superhuman trafficking and the Warlord character (remember him? with his manties and ludicrous helmet/beard combo?) as a pirate king.
Deadman and the Flying Grayson.... had some pretty nice covers. Yeah, that series kind of sucked.
Atlantis versus the Amazons was a good idea, it kind of makes me wonder if the two have ever gone to war before because it feels like such and obvious idea in retrospect.
And Flashpoint Batman was perhaps the one good miniseries to emerge from that whole debacle.

So what about you folks, what ideas did you like or dislike in Flashpoint and what would you have done differently with the whole event?

Hey guys,

So I don't think I really mentioned it on the forums, but I write/produce for a videogame website called Tech-Gaming. I bring that up because right now, I'm in the thick of making appointments for e3, and one company that's been bugging me almost daily to stop by and have a talk is Little Orbit - makers of the new Young Justice game.
Now, I'm a "Make Mine Marvel" kinda guy, so I've already made my appointment with Gazillion to talk about the Marvel Heroes game, but I'm trying to gauge interest in Young Justice before I commit an hour to talking to them about it.

I know you guys are fans of the show, but are you guys interested in a downloadable YJ game? If I interviewed the guys putting it out, would you guys be interested in reading/listening to that? Should I just ignore them and hold that spot on the off chance there is a Monster Hunter announcement, and I need to devote every waking hour of my time to the Capcom booth?

Help me, LeBFAs! Your my only hope!
